Interesting comments posted on this subject. Amanda makes a good point about reviews polarised in the star rating system on Amazon. Lucy's comment that as an editor, it is important to pitch your critique at the level the writer is capable of working with resonates with me. With my students I take into account their ambitions for their writing as well. I am in agreement with Joanne, I would like to see a prize for quality criticism, not attention seeking behaviour. Do any of you know if there is an award for reviews/literary criticism other than The Hatchet Job?

An aspiring writer myself I found your poem The whisk, the spoon and the grater, very touching.

Thank you John. It is always gratifying and validating to know that a piece of writing has touched a reader. I often use objects as a starting point for writing and I encourage my students to do the same, May I wish you luck in your literary endeavours.
