A very interesting point about the two tier system for published works and the low cost when purchasing from an e-reader. How does this affect authors’ income? The e-reader allows relative unknowns to reach an audience, but there are drawbacks. The Society of Authors has expressed concern about pirating and publishers have set up teams to pull down sites who pirate their author’s work. The creative industries in this country earn 7.5 billion for our economy; it is vital that the public are vigilant and protect them. We must all be alert to copyright infringement. Next month I will be looking at the economics of publishing and giving a breakdown of costs. When publishing a novel in original paper format, or e-reader, what percentage of the cover price does the author actually receive?
